More about SAMe
Approximately five hundred amino acids occur in nature. Twenty of these are amino acids that serve as building blocks for proteins in the human body, these are referred to as fundamental amino acids. These fundamental amino acids can be subdivided into the categories 'essential', 'semi-essential' and 'non-essential'.
Methionine belongs to the so-called essential amino acids, which means that the body cannot synthesize it itself from other amino acids, and in order to meet its daily needs one is completely dependent on diet.
Methionine is present in eggs, fish, shellfish, meat, poultry, dairy, nuts, seeds, soy and grains. The methionine that is not built into proteins by the body can be converted into S-adenosylmethionine (SAMe) by reaction with ATP. This occurs particularly in the liver.
Directly available in the body
Methionine in the form of S-adenosyl-L-methionine (SAMe) has the advantage that it does not need to be converted first, but is directly available to the body.
SAMe is a sulfur-containing amino acid with a diversity of functions in the body. The synthesis of SAMe gradually decreases with age. Under various circumstances it may be beneficial to take additional SAMe in the form of a dietary supplement.
Usage
As a dietary supplement for adults, 1-3 capsules daily between meals (at least half an hour before, or two hours after a meal) with water or as advised.
This product is a dietary supplement (Amino acid preparation). A varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle are important. A dietary supplement is not a replacement for a varied diet.
