More about Muira Puama
Muira Puama increases the sensitivity of skin and sexual organs and, when used regularly, it increases virility. It is probably one of the most thoroughly tested herbs, since it has been included in the Brazilian pharmacopoeia (the official list of medicinal drugs, their uses and properties), as a possible remedy for impotence. The literal translation would be ’potency wood’.
Habitait
Muira puama is also called the viagra of the Amazon rainforest. There and in the Orinoko regions of Brazil it grows as a shrubby tree. The part used is the root bark.
The indigenous people have been using muira puama for centuries as a sexual stimulant, to get more energy and to increase the state of mind. It is compared to yohimbe, but does not have the same side effects. Muira puama means 'potency wood'.
Traditional method of preparation
From the wood of the muira puama tree an aqueous extract is made. Approximately four tablespoons of cut wood are boiled in half a litre of water for 20 minutes. The wood contains various active ingredients. The wood consists mainly of resin, esters, tannins and sitosterol.
Effects
Maura puama is an aphrodisiac, which means that it has an aphrodisiac effect and increases potency. It also lowers stress levels and has a calming effect. It is also used to relax joints and in stressful situations. In the short term, muira puama increases blood circulation (especially to the intimate parts), improving erections and strengthening orgasms. Long-term use improves the production of sexual hormones in both men and women.
A study by the UCLA School of Medicine shows how users saw a clear improvement in sexual desire and erectile function.
