More about MCT Oil C8
Fatty acids are a source of energy and form the basis of all kinds of fats found in our diet. Fatty acids can be divided into short-, medium-, and long-chain fatty acids and the length determines how fast our body absorbs the fatty acids.
MCT stands for Medium-Chain Triglyceride, or medium-chain fatty acids or triglycerides and these can also be divided into four different types: C6, C8, C10, and C12 (where the number stands for the number of fatty acid chains). Of these four different fatty acids, C8, or caprylic acid, is the most efficient fatty acid and because of its length, it can be quickly converted into energy. Long-chain fatty acids are first absorbed by the lymphatic system and then continue through the intestines. Medium chain fatty acids, on the other hand, are absorbed directly through the intestines into the blood. This allows our body to use the energy quickly.
What is the difference between coconut oil and MCT oil?
MCT is a concentration of MCTs while coconut oil is a good source of MCTs but does not only contain MCTs. So this means that MCT oil can be converted into energy faster than coconut oil. MCT oil is normally good for energy and weight loss while coconut oil is good option for cooking and for beauty purposes.
