Peyote
A small crown-shaped blue-green cactus without needles, that grows very slowly and sometimes carries one, white or pink flower.
Scientific name
Lophophora Williamsii.
Family
Cactaceae.
Native to
Mexico and Texas.
Active substance(s)
Mescaline, among many other alkaloids.
Effect
Mescaline is a powerful hallucinogen, one trip can last 12-16 hours. It produces colourful kaleidoscopic visions, and often hallucinations of other senses (hearing, feeling), during philosophical, religious, psychological and/or even out-of-body experiences.
Usage
The head or button has to be cut off just above the earth’s surface (the root will grow a new head!), so it can be eaten or crushed and boiled in water for several hours to make a strong tea. Most of the mescaline is concentrated directly under the skin, which can be chewed on.
Dosage
150 to 200 grams of fresh cactus.
