Calea zacatechichi, also known as bitter grass, dog grass or dream herb, is used to produce clear and 'brighten' the senses. This shrub is related to the sunflower. Originally it comes from Central America. It is found mainly in the highlands of Mexico and some parts of Costa Rica. In Mexico this plant is called the 'leaf of god'. All kinds of magical properties have been attributed to it. The plant was loved for its ability to create visions in dreams. It was used in ceremonies to make contact with the gods and to communicate with other worlds. One could also get insights and advice from spirits. In this way the shaman could bring out information from his subconscious and guide the people around him in the right way.

Furthermore, Calea zacatechichi is used as a health aid, to stimulate the intestinal movements and to stimulate the appetite. 

Effects

The dried leaves can be used to make and drink tea. Your state of consciousness is elevated, this can feel subtle. In some people a clear feeling is noticeable.

Taste

Dream herb has a bitter taste and can be sweetened with honey or sugar.

Usage

Soak in hot water for 15 minutes to make tea.
